Carrier · Honey

Honey is water-based (approx. 17 % water, 80 % sugar). Cannabinoids are lipophilic and do not dissolve in it. The only reliable method therefore takes an indirect route: first infuse THC into coconut oil or butter, then emulsify this fat into warm honey with added lecithin. Lecithin only stabilizes the emulsion — it cannot activate or bind THC itself. Without pre-infused fat, the honey contains no effective THC, even if lecithin is included.

Optional: Sonnenblumenlecithin (ca. 0,3–1 % der Fettmenge) kann die Emulsion im Honig/Sirup stabilisieren und das Absetzen verlangsamen.

Instructions

  1. 1.Warm the honey very gently in a water bath to a maximum of 40 °C — never heat raw honey above this, or enzymes and flavor will be lost.
  2. 2.Melt the coconut oil in a second jar at 40–45 °C until liquid (never heat THC above 60 °C).
  3. 3.Stir the lecithin into the warm coconut oil until clear — it will stabilize the droplets in the honey later.
  4. 4.Add the coconut oil-lecithin mixture to the warm honey and emulsify vigorously for 3–5 min (using a hand mixer/immersion blender) until homogeneous.
  5. 5.Pour into a clean jar. Stir briefly before each use — the fat phase may separate slightly during storage.

Note from the kitchen

Important: THC does not bind directly to honey — honey is water-based, while THC is fat-soluble. The actual carrier is therefore the pre-infused coconut oil; the honey is simply the flavorful medium. Stirring lecithin alone into plain honey does NOT effectively bind THC — using infused fat is the only reliable method (sources: Emily Kyle Nutrition, Reveal Cannabis, MunchMakers, 2024).
